Tampa Electric offers one of the most effective residential surge protection systems on the market today
TAMPA, June 14, 2000
Not all surge protection is created equal. With a variety of shapes, sizes and prices to choose from, it can become confusing for consumers when comparing off-the-shelf surge protectors at local stores.
Tampa Electric can help.
Tampa Electric's Zap Cap System® for Home offers an advanced two-layered approach that features a meter-based primary unit that works in conjunction with secondary plug-in protectors placed throughout the home. This system offers a higher level of protection than most standard single-layered approaches to surge protection.
The system's effectiveness is due to the ability of the meter-based unit to divert roughly 90 percent of each high-voltage surge away from the home. In doing so, the primary unit reduces the amount of energy from each high-voltage surge from a level that would exceed the capability of most standard plug-in protectors to a level it can adequately protect against.
Here's how the system works:
- The Primary Unit, which is installed at the electric meter, serves as the front line of defense against damaging high-voltage surges entering the home through the electrical service entrance. This device offers a high level of
protection to large appliances such as washers, dryers, refrigerators, stoves and heating and cooling systems.
- Plug-in protectors may be purchased through Tampa Electric's program for use inside the home to provide power line protection for sensitive electronics such as televisions, stereos, VCRs, computers, microwaves and garage door openers. These plug-ins are also capable of providing protection from high-voltage surges entering cable TV and phone lines – areas often neglected by consumers during the purchase process.
The program costs only $5.95 a month (plus tax) and requires a one-time installation fee of $34.95 for the meter-based unit. A minimum two-year commitment is required.
Customers who sign up for the program will also receive their choice of a secondary multi-media or telecommunications plug-in protector absolutely free. Tampa Electric has additional plug-in protectors available for purchase. All costs are added directly to your monthly Tampa Electric bill.
The Zap Cap program is backed by reliable manufacturer warranties (up to $100,000).
