Tampa Electric exceeds today's goal, restoring power to 20,000 customers
TAMPA, August 15, 2004
Tampa Electric reported this evening that its team has exceeded its earlier stated goal of restoring 15,000 customers with Hurricane Charley outages today. The company's actual restorations for the day were about 20,000. Current estimates show that less than 20,000 customers remain without power in Winter Haven/Polk County.
Vice President-Energy Delivery Tom Hernandez said, "Our team is making good progress, but we will not slow our pace until the lights are back on for every customer in our Winter Haven service area."
Despite continued progress, the remaining work to be done is likely to take longer, taking into consideration significant and extensive damage to the company's transmission and distribution equipment. Hernandez said that the company's original goal of having power restored for all Winter Haven customers by Friday still stands.
The phone number for Polk County is 863-299-0800. Areas outside Polk or Hillsborough Counties may call (toll-free) 888-223-0800.
