Tampa Electric urges customers to make their day Off a day On
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day designated as National Day of Utility Service
TAMPA, January 16, 2009
Tampa Electric is pleased to join the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners in supporting its Anybody Can Serve campaign. Inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s service-minded belief that anybody willing to serve can make a difference, the campaign encourages Americans to learn about energy efficiency and its financial and environmental benefits. The campaign has designated Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day (Monday, January 19, 2009) as a National Day of Utility Service.
As part of the Anybody Can Serve effort, Tampa Electric will be promoting energy efficiency online at tampaelectric.com, in customers’ homes through energy audits and other programs and at Tampa’s 20th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. Energy analysts will be stationed at Young Middle Magnet School to answer customers’ questions and make appointments for free home energy audits. Participating in the parade will be members of the Tampa Electric Energy Management Services team, accompanied by one of the company’s 13 Ford Escape hybrid SUVs and the Peoples Gas natural gas-powered Honda Civic GX. Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas are committed to practicing energy efficiency in the field through the use of these vehicles.
On the National Day of Utility Service – and each day thereafter – customers are encouraged to take simple steps to increase energy savings in their homes and businesses, such as checking insulation levels; draft-proofing windows; cleaning or replacing air filters regularly; and replacing incandescent light bulbs with compact fluorescent lights.
Tampa Electric is proud to promote and encourage volunteerism and community service through its team members. In 2008, TECO Energy team members volunteered over 5500 hours in support of community events. By embracing the Anybody Can Serve effort, Tampa Electric and the community it serves can work together to make a difference in the Tampa Bay area and the environment.
