"Helping our customers install solar arrays aligns with Tampa Electric's ongoing efforts to increase solar arrays throughout the community, whether at homes, businesses or at community cornerstones such as Tampa's Lowry Park Zoo and The Florida Aquarium," said Shelly Aubuchon, program manager for the company's Renewable Energy programs.

Tampa Electric has committed to offer more than $1 million in rebates a year to customers interested in installing new solar PV and solar water heater systems. This is the second rebate offer as part of the five-year program. The first round of PV rebates was initially reserved within 72 hours.

The company offers rebates for two types of solar installations, including:

  • Solar PV Systems - Provides residential and business customer rebates of $2 per watt (up to a maximum of $20,000) when PV systems are installed and interconnected to Tampa Electric's grid.
  • Residential Solar Water Heating - Provides customer rebates up to $1,000 to install new solar water-heating systems. Rebate funds for solar water heating are available today by registering online at tampaelectric.com/solarrebates.

Customers can earn a retail credit for excess electricity generated by their PV system. To date, the company has 140 solar customers interconnected with Tampa Electric's grid through net metering, resulting in a combined capacity of almost 1,400 kilowatts. More about customer-installed systems and net metering is available on the company's website at tampaelectric.com/renewable.
