Tampa Electric’s new online home energy audit lets customers find easy ways to save energy and money

TAMPA, March 31, 2003

Tampa Electric customers looking to save money on their monthly electric bills can now do just that with the convenience of the new Online Home Energy Audit. The application, which debuts April 1, makes it easy for customers to find out exactly how to make their homes more energy efficient.

Customers can access the Online Home Energy Audit at tampaelectric.com by going to the ‘Energy Savers’ page on the site.

Simple to use and self-explanatory, the audit takes about fifteen minutes to perform. After entering the first five letters of their last name (as it appears on their electric bill) and their Tampa Electric account number, customers complete an online questionnaire and receive a fully detailed report their home’s energy use and helpful recommendations within a matter of minutes.

The report, which can be downloaded and printed, will include:

  • Easy-to-read charts and graphs about their energy use
  • Customized recommendations on how to conserve electricity and reduce utility bills
  • Links to information on the current energy-efficiency and rebate programs offered by Tampa Electric

“With everyone looking for ways to save money these days, the Online Home Energy Audit offers an important service for our customers,” said Alan Denham, administrator with Tampa Electric’s Program Services department. “It’s a convenient way they can receive recommendations specific to their habits and home. This, in turn, can help minimize energy consumption through simple changes in behavior or investments in efficiency improvements to their homes and equipment.”

The Online Home Energy Audit is one of many recent improvements to tampaelectric.com. Other changes include the New Construction Site, revised Conservation information and more. Customers can still request a Free Home Energy Audit as well, in which a trained analyst will inspect their home to identify major energy use problems and recommend steps they can take to use energy more wisely.

Tampa Electric Company is the principal subsidiary of TECO Energy, Inc. (NYSE:TE), a diversified holding company of energy-related businesses that include Peoples Gas System, TECO Power Services, TECO Transport, TECO Coal and TECO Solutions.
