Tampa Electric’s new construction Web site aims to make local building easier

TAMPA, March 13, 2003

New enhancements to Tampa Electric’s New Construction Web site are set to make doing business easier for local builders and developers. Part of Tampa Electric’s commitment to the Bay area business community, the site can be accessed at tampaelectric.com by selecting Business and New Construction.

The site’s many features help expedite projects by allowing builders to:

  • Pay construction costs over the Internet
  • Check a project’s status (including releases, payment, associated work and more) by simply entering a work request number
  • Request service (temporary, permanent or upgraded) with online forms
  • Download service requirements (which includes requirements for overhead and underground construction and service, wiring and voltages, metering, pad-mount equipment, and other information)
  • View general rules and specs in addition to printed brochures

“The New Construction site is a useful tool to help the already healthy building and development industry in the Tampa Bay area,” said Susan Smith, account coordinator with Tampa Electric’s New Commercial Construction department. “When we work to make the job easier for those who are -- literally -- building this community, everybody wins.”

The improvements to the New Construction site are part of an ongoing drive to bring more services to tampaelectric.com. Currently the site lets customers utilize almost all of the services they can access through the phone.

New improvements to phone offerings for builders and developers are also designed to make the construction process easier. Tampa Electric’s Engineering Department recently created a single new number for customer service. The new number, (813) 635-1500, replaces the seven individual service area numbers that had to be used, depending on the location of the project.

Tampa Electric Company is the principal subsidiary of TECO Energy, Inc. (NYSE:TE), a diversified holding company of energy-related businesses that include Peoples Gas System, TECO Power Services, TECO Transport, TECO Coal and TECO Solutions.
