We have a long history of pursuing and supporting solar projects across the communities we serve. It all started in 2000 when Tampa Electric launched its Renewable Energy program along with its first solar panel installation at the Museum of Science & Industry. Today, we own seven community-sited systems that generate 135 kilowatts (kW) of electricity that allow our customers to purchase renewable energy in 200-kW blocks for $5 each per month.
We're proud to share that we're currently building a 2-megawatt (MW) array at Tampa International Airport that will go online in 2015 and will complete a 25-MW array on land we own in Apollo Beach in 2016 – both projects that will serve all of our more than 700,000 customers. When complete, we will have invested more than $50 million in solar power.

We have made significant investments in our power stations that have resulted in Tampa Electric being recognized as one of the cleanest electricity companies in the country. Our four power plants generate nearly 4,700 megawatts of electricity to serve our customers throughout West Central Florida.
