Big Bend Solar
Adjacent to Tampa Electric's Big Bend Power Station in Apollo Beach.
This 23-megawatt photovoltaic (PV) array will feature more than 200,000 solar panels on 125 acres of Tampa Electric-owned land near our Big Bend Power Station. It will be the largest solar array in the Tampa Bay area. When complete in early 2017, it will have the capacity to power more than 3,300 homes.
The Big Bend Solar array will be situated near Tampa Electric's Manatee Viewing Center, which has hosted more than 4.3 million visitors since it opened in 1986. Just to the south of the Manatee Viewing Center, the Florida Conservation and Technology Center – a partnership between Tampa Electric, the Florida Aquarium and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission – is currently under construction.
