Clearview to Gray Substation

Tampa Electric is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective electricity to you and your neighbors in Tampa.

Tampa Electric plans to upgrade existing power lines and substations in your neighborhood. The company will upgrade about 1.5 miles of a 69-kilovolt (kV) power line between the Clearview Substation, at 1350 N. Himes Ave., and the Gray Substation, at 4402 W. Carmen St. These improvements are needed to ensure the homes and businesses in your area continue to receive reliable power. Equipment at both substations also will be upgraded. (Please see attached map.)

Existing concrete poles will remain in place and will be reinforced with metal supports to better withstand high winds. In addition, one wooden pole will be replaced, and one new pole will be installed. Traffic will be temporarily disrupted during the installation of the equipment with intermittent lane closures and detours. Residents may hear some construction-related noise, mostly during daylight hours on weekdays. Construction is scheduled to begin in March and to be complete by December 2016. We urge residents to drive safely during construction for the safety of residents, vehicles and Tampa Electric crews.

If you would like to learn more about this project, please plan to attend our open house, when Tampa Electric representatives will be available to answer your questions from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16 at the Loretta Ingraham Center, 1611 N. Hubert Ave.

If you cannot attend the open house but would like to learn more about the improved transmission line, please call 813-493-5312.
