Ruskin 19th Ave. Power Line Project
Tampa Electric is committed to providing safe, reliable and cost-effective electricity to you and your neighbors in the Ruskin community.
Tampa Electric plans to build a new transmission line in your neighborhood to ensure delivery of reliable electricity for the entire region. The line will run 3 miles, starting at the existing First Street Substation, 97 19th Ave. N.W. The line will run east along 19th Avenue and connect to existing transmission lines on the west side of Interstate 75. (Please see enclosed map.)
The new 69-kilovolt power line will be built on new steel poles. Most poles will be less than 75 feet tall and two feet wide at the base. At U.S. 41 and 19th Avenue, four poles will be up to 100 feet tall and 4 feet wide at the base.
Crews will trim or remove some trees before construction begins. Traffic will be temporarily disrupted during the installation of the equipment, with intermittent lane closures. Residents may hear some construction-related noise, mostly during daylight hours on weekdays. Some customers may experience brief outages as part of construction; crews will attempt to notify residents beforehand. Construction is scheduled to begin later this month and to be complete by December 2016. We urge residents to drive safely during construction for the safety of residents, vehicles and Tampa Electric crews.
An open house was held on Tuesday, Aug. 16, in Rooms 201-202 at Hillsborough Community College's SouthShore Campus, 551 24th St. N.E., in Ruskin. This project was completed in August 2017.
If you cannot attend the open house but would like to learn more about the new transmission line, please call (813) 493-5312.
