Tampa Electric is moving quickly to meet tomorrow’s needs for efficient and environmentally responsible electricity generation. At the same time, we do so with a dedication to integrity that will allow us to be leaders in the preservation of the environment of the Tampa Bay community.
Changes to our power plants are enhancing the processes we use to generate electricity, making us one of the cleanest electric utilities in the nation. This is the core of our 10-year, $1.2 billion plan, signed in 1999 with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, to reduce our air emissions. Among the plan’s provisions are decreases in sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxide emissions across our generation fleet by more than 89 percent from 1998 levels.
Our commitment includes initiatives like our Avian Protection Plan as well as our support for environmental education at the Manatee Viewing Center. It also extends to our partnerships with local environmental organizations that share our vision.
