By participating in Tampa Electric’s Renewable Energy program, you are joining others who support the use of cleaner renewable sources like the sun and biomass (plant materials) to produce electricity. Learn more about the benefits of renewable energy and how your participation will produce a positive environmental impact. Learn more about Tampa Electric's solar panel installations.
Our new online solar calculator can help residential and business customers determine how much it will cost to install their own solar panel systems. The average residential solar installation is about 5 kilowatts (kW), while the average commercial PV system is about 25 kW in size. View the news release.
Tampa Electric joined with Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo and the University of South Florida’s Power Center for Utility Explorations to construct a 15-kilowatt solar energy project at the zoo. Completed in December 2009, the solar installation generates enough electricity to power the zoo’s Treetop Skyfari sky ride and produces clean renewable energy for the electric grid that serves the community. The project, which also includes a Renewable Energy Learning Center at the zoo, provides research opportunities for USF and Tampa Electric to study the technical, economic and environmental benefits of a renewable, grid-connected photovoltaic system for Smart Grid electric power production. The one-time Renewable Energy purchase option is available for hosting an event at a convention center, hotel, stadium or any other location – even at your home. By using this option, you can power your events with energy produced from natural sources like the sun and biomass.
Both residential and business customers can participate. Residential customers can sign up online for as little as $5 per month added to your electric bill. Tampa Electric will create a customized package for business customers who wish to join our list of Power Partners. Learn more about becoming a Power Partner.
