Frequently Asked Question

Q. What is net metering?

A. Customers who install renewable power systems (solar panels, biomass and wind-powered) up to 2 megawatts can interconnect to Tampa Electric’s grid through a bi-directional net meter. The meter allows any excess electricity generated by your system (electricity not used by your home or business) to flow onto Tampa Electric’s grid. When your system generates more electricity than you use, a credit will carry over to the next month. If you produce enough electricity that you have a surplus at the end of the year, Tampa Electric will apply a credit to your January bill based on the as available rate.
