The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), in cooperation with the Florida Turnpike Enterprise and the Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority, is planning an elevated toll roadway to connect Interstate 4 and the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway.
The I-4/Lee Roy Selmon Expressway connector will require Tampa Electric to realign several transmission circuits with voltages ranging from 69 kilovolt (kV) to 230 kV and a number of smaller 13-kV distribution circuits. A map of the project is attached.
This project involves work to replace existing transmission poles and wires at crossings over the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway in the area between 34th Street and 39th Street and between 22nd Street and 26th Street. We will also be required to cross over I-4 in the area of 28th Street and 15th Avenue and replace two poles on 11th Avenue just west of 34th Street. As part of this project, some of the new poles may be placed in locations different from the existing poles. This type of construction typically utilizes steel and/or concrete poles that are up to 140 feet in height, with a ground-level diameter of up to 46 inches. The work is expected to begin in July and is anticipated to be completed in November 2009.
If you would like additional information about this project, you are invited to attend an open house with Tampa Electric and FDOT representatives, who will have detailed maps and displays of our construction plans and will answer questions:
