You may remember that the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), in cooperation with the Florida Turnpike Enterprise and the Tampa-Hillsborough County Expressway Authority, is building an elevated toll roadway to connect Interstate 4 and the Lee Roy Selmon Crosstown Expressway. The I-4/Lee Roy Selmon Expressway connector required Tampa Electric to realign several transmission circuits.
In response to changes in construction requirements, Tampa Electric needs to replace several existing transmission poles with taller poles to accommodate some large cranes and other equipment that will be used for road construction. One temporary pole also will be installed.
Two replacement poles will be installed south of the Lee Roy Selmon Expressway along 22nd Street, near Long and Durham streets. A temporary pole will be installed near 36th Street between State Road 60 and the expressway. Crews will increase the height of an existing pole south of the expressway, near 37th Street.
The poles will be made of steel and will be between 150 and 155 feet tall and 30 to 36 inches wide at ground level. The news poles may be placed in locations different from the existing poles.
Work will begin April 30 and will be complete this summer, although we will continue to work on the I-4 Connector through completion of the project.
