Tampa Electric plans to begin construction of a new switching station and two new 69-kilovolt transmission lines in your area to support the transmission network that serves Tampa Electric and Progress Energy Florida customers in the eastern Pasco County and northern Hillsborough County areas.
The Pasco County Planning Commission and the Development Review Committee of Pasco County held public hearings on this project in the September – October 2007 time frame. The project will provide an interconnection to the transmission network between Tampa Electric and Progress Energy Florida at the new Tampa Electric Handcart switching station. The new infrastructure will allow both utilities to improve the area's transmission grid, which will help maintain the reliable flow of electricity to all customers.
The new Handcart switching station is being constructed in the area of Madison Ave. and SR 54 in Zyphrhills and is expected to be completed in November.
One of the new transmission lines will be built in public road right-of-way on the north side of SR 54, between the switching station and Eiland Blvd. The other transmission line will be built in a Tampa Electric easement that runs directly west from the substation to Eiland Blvd. This type of construction typically utilizes steel and/or concrete poles that are up to 75 feet in height with a ground-line diameter of up to 42 inches. A map of the project area is attached.
If you would like additional information about this project, you are invited to attend an open house with Tampa Electric company representatives, who will have detailed maps and displays of our construction plans and will answer questions:
