Juneau Substation Upgrade

Tampa Electric is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective electricity to you and your neighbors in the Lowry Park Central community.

Tampa Electric plans to improve the substation in your neighborhood. The company will replace a transformer and remove some old equipment from the existing Juneau Substation, 2112 W. Juneau St. This equipment upgrade is needed to ensure the homes and businesses in your area continue to receive reliable power.

Construction will be limited to the substation and the immediate vicinity. A map of the project area is enclosed.

The project will be constructed in three phases:

  • In December, crews will remove the old steel lattice circuit-switcher structure from the substation and the concrete transmission pole on the northeast corner of the substation.
  • In January, crews will build a foundation for the new transformer inside the substation.
  • In early February, the new, quieter transformer will be delivered to the substation.
    • Traffic may be temporarily disrupted during the transportation of the equipment, and trees along Juneau Street may need to be trimmed to accommodate it.
    • Crews will remove the old transformer, install the new one, and re-install the sound wall around the transformer inside the substation.

This project will not include any new equipment outside of the substation. Residents may hear some construction-related noise during daylight hours. The project is scheduled to be complete at the end of April 2012. Upon completion of the project, landscaping will be restored to original condition.

We urge residents to drive safely during construction for the safety of residents, vehicles and Tampa Electric crews.
