Meadow Park

The delivery of reliable, cost-effective electricity to our customers requires Tampa Electric to regularly maintain and, as required, upgrade our electrical system.

In order to continue to reliably serve the increased growth in western Hillsborough County, Tampa Electric plans to add a transformer to our Meadow Park substation, located on Memorial Highway west of Montague Street.

This project also involves work to replace existing transmission poles and upgrade distribution wires from the Meadow Park substation east, within the Memorial Highway right-of-way, to Montague Street, then along a Tampa Electric-owned corridor from Montague north to Waters Avenue. We are also replacing distribution poles and upgrading wires west from the Meadow Park substation along Memorial Highway to a point just west of Countryway Boulevard. A map of the project area is attached.

As part of this project, some of the new poles may be placed in locations different from the existing poles. Our work involves replacing existing distribution wood poles with stronger wood poles that will harden the system to better withstand storm events. The existing wood transmission poles that are being replaced will also be upgraded and strengthened by utilizing steel and/or concrete poles that are up to 75 feet in height, with a ground-level diameter of up to 24 inches.

The project construction will begin approximately in July and is anticipated to be completed in December 2009.
