The delivery of reliable, cost-effective electricity to our customers requires Tampa Electric to maintain and, as required, upgrade our electrical system. As we do this, we strive to keep you updated about projects designed to enhance reliability in your community.
In order to continue to reliably serve the increased growth in your area, Tampa Electric plans to add a transformer to our Tampa Bay Substation, located on Tom McEwen/Tampa Bay Boulevard west of Dale Mabry Highway. The Tampa Bay Substation upgrade also requires that a new transmission line be constructed from the substation east along Tom McEwen/Tampa Bay Boulevard.
The new transmission line will connect to existing transmission lines at North Glen Avenue. The transmission lines along Glen Avenue between Tom McEwen/Tampa Bay Boulevard and Woodlawn Avenue and along Tom McEwen/Tampa Bay Boulevard between Glen Avenue and Lincoln Avenue will be upgraded by replacing the existing poles and electrical wires. New pole locations were identified with signs prior to construction.
We expect daily outages as we work to safely complete the project. These outages will not last more than four hours. Customers who will be affected will be notified two days in advance. One of our team members will leave a hang tag on the door of homes to alert residents of the anticipated outage.
We urge residents to drive safely during the construction period for the safety of residents, vehicles and Tampa Electric team members in the work areas.
Construction is scheduled to begin in late April 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by August 31, 2010.
