Port of Tampa

In order to reliably provide power to the community, Tampa Electric maintains and, as required, upgrades our electrical system. As part of our Storm Hardening Plan filed with the Florida Public Service Commission, we are completing the final phase of our Port of Tampa infrastructure upgrade. The project is designed to improve the electric system’s ability to withstand extreme winds at the Port of Tampa, a facility critical to people both in and beyond the communities we serve.

This project includes replacing and, in some cases, relocating transmission and distribution poles. Please see the enclosed map of the project area for details of the project route.

To make the necessary upgrades, it will be necessary to interrupt your electric service. Outage duration times will vary due to the amount of work required. Affected customers will receive door hang tags two days in advance alerting them to the anticipated outage.

We urge residents to drive safely during the construction period for the safety of residents, vehicles and Tampa Electric team members in the work areas.

Construction is scheduled to begin in September 2010 and is anticipated to be completed by January 1, 2011.

If you would like additional information about this project, you are invited to attend an open house with Tampa Electric representatives who will have detailed maps and displays of our construction plans and will answer questions:
