Whitehurst

In our ongoing efforts to ensure the continued delivery of reliable electricity to our customers, Tampa Electric has constructed a new transmission switching station in your area and enhanced an existing nearby 69-kilovolt transmission line.

The new Whitehurst switching station was constructed near the intersection of Whitehurst and Boot Bay Roads in Plant City and was completed in December 2009.

The project involved replacing several existing transmission poles and electrical wire. This work follows a route south from the new switching station along Whitehurst Road to Highway 92, then east along Highway 92 to Woodrow Wilson Street. From there, the route proceeds south on Woodrow Wilson Street to a Tampa Electric easement, and finally east to the Alexander substation, located at the intersection of Airport Road and Alexander Street. This type of construction typically utilizes steel and/or concrete poles that are up to 75 feet in height, with a ground-line diameter of up to 42 inches. A map of the project area is attached.
