Dee Brown was named Vice President of Customer Service and Regulatory Affairs in 2006. She is responsible for customer service at Tampa Electric, and she leads and manages TECO Energy’s regulatory activities for Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas before the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the Florida Public Service Commission.
Brown joined TECO Energy in 1990 as an internal auditor in the company’s Audit Services Department. From there, Brown worked as an administrator in the Health Benefits section of Human Resources, developing and implementing strategies to reduce health care costs and providing financial support to other areas of the department. Between 1995 and 1998, Brown served as Director of TECO Energy’s Audit Services group, directing the company’s internal auditing function. In 1998, Brown became Director of Regulatory Affairs for Tampa Electric and in 2001, she was appointed Vice President, Regulatory Affairs, TECO Energy.
Before coming to TECO Energy, she worked in public accounting and with Pinellas County’s Clerk of the Circuit Court as an auditor.
Brown received a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Florida State University, and received a Master’s in Business Administration in Management from the University of South Florida, earning summa cum laude honors. She has obtained numerous professional certifications, including Certified Public Accountant, Certified Internal Auditor and Certified Fraud Examiner. She is also a member of the American Institute of CPAs and the Florida Institute of CPAs.
Brown is active with several local community organizations. She serves on the regional board of Junior Achievement of West Coast Florida, where she was involved with the development of Hillsborough County’s Enterprise Village, and has served as a classroom volunteer. Brown is also on the board of directors for The Centre for Women and has been one of the top fundraisers in Tampa’s Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for breast cancer. Brown also is a board member for TECO Energy’s federal and state political action committees, having served as president of TEPAC Florida from 2003-2004.
Brown is a Tampa Bay native and currently lives in Tampa.
