Building Envelope Improvement
What is it?
Tampa Electric's Building Envelope Improvement program offers rebates for implementing stand-alone measures that
can add to the comfort of your home and decrease energy costs.
What are the measures?
- Ceiling Insulation: Poor levels of insulation in your attic will let energy escape, costing you
money as well as comfort. Before you install insulation, call Tampa Electric and set up an appointment with one
of our energy analysts to perform an evaluation. If ceiling insulation is recommended, the analyst will provide
you with a rebate certificate and list of contractors that can perform the work. The contractor will deduct
the rebate from the total amount of the invoice. Schedule an inspection today and find out if you qualify for
one of these rebates:
- $200 rebate for insulating 450 to 1,500 square feet
- $275 rebate for insulating 1,501 to 2,200 square feet
- $350 rebate for insulating 2,201 or more square feet
*Note: Rebates are available for work performed by a licensed contractor participating in the program. Owner-installed insulation also qualifies for a rebate.
- Wall Insulation: Proper insulation levels in exterior walls adjacent to living areas will help reduce
demand on your air conditioning and heating system. To qualify for a rebate** of $0.31 per square foot, a minimum of R-11
wall insulation must be installed and the existing structure must have electric whole-house air conditioning or heating.
The rebate is based only on newly insulated exterior wall areas adjacent to the living area. After wall insulation is installed,
print, complete and submit a Wall Insulation form, including
your proof of purchase (paid receipt) to receive your rebate.
**Note: A home with in-wall wiring requiring air cooling will not qualify for a rebate. This includes knob-and-tube wiring.
- Window Replacement: Replacing existing windows with energy-efficient windows will help to reduce solar heat gain.
To qualify for a rebate of $2.65 per square foot, windows must be installed within conditioned space and be labeled by the National Fenestration Rating Council (NFRC) to have
a minimum Solar Heat Gain Coefficiency (SHGC) less than or equal to .35, and a U-factor less than or equal to .60. In addition, the
existing structure must have electric whole-house air conditioning or heating. The rebate is based only on newly installed windows and
sliding glass doors meeting the requirements above. After window replacements are installed, you are required to complete, sign and date
our Window Replacement form.
A hard copy of the form, including proof of purchase (paid receipt) and a copy of the NFRC label from each window must be submitted to
Tampa Electric.
- Window Film: Applying film to all east- and west-facing glass within conditioned areas – including any non-decorative
glass that may be part of a door – may qualify you to receive $2 per square foot if the minimum shading coefficiency is .40 or less.
The existing structure must have electric whole-house air conditioning. After window film is installed, you are required to complete,
sign and date our Window Film form.
A hard copy of the form, including proof of purchase (paid receipt) and supporting documentation (specification sheet) showing the shading
coefficient of the film installed, must be submitted to Tampa Electric within six months of the installation date in order for you to qualify for the rebate.
How does it work?
Schedule an appointment with a Tampa Electric energy analyst before installing ceiling insulation by calling 813-275-3909. The other measures do not require
pre-inspection, but must meet minimum requirements to qualify for rebates.
