About Blinking Clocks

Don't you hate it when your clocks go berserk after a momentary power interruption? Usually, these interruptions last less than a second. You probably wouldn't even notice if it wasn't for your blinking digital clocks!

What's the cause?

Blame it on the squirrels. Or, tree limbs falling on your power lines. It could even be a severe storm.

Whatever the cause, Tampa Electric's protective equipment works automatically to prevent long power outages. But at times, interferences beyond our control can cause a power outage lasting one minute or longer.

What’s the difference between a momentary interruption and a power outage?

What can I do?

Test TVs, VCRs and microwaves before you buy them. Unplug them for a couple of seconds to determine if they can "ride-through" short power interruptions and maintain the time and other information stored in memory.

  • Buy electronic clocks with battery-backup features.
  • Avoid planting trees and shrubs that will grow into overhead power lines.
  • Keep your electrical system in proper working order.
  • Inform Tampa Electric of any power-hungry additions to your home.
