Selective Catalytic Reduction

Ammonia's Role

Ammonia in the SCR process is used in a liquefied gas form. The ammonia is added to the exhaust gases, which are then channeled through ductwork and a catalyst. A catalytic reaction breaks down the nitrogen oxides compounds into simple elemental nitrogen and water. The result is approximately 80 percent removal rate of nitrogen oxides from the emissions.
