Learn about Tampa Electric’s enhanced energy conservation programs

Tampa Electric offers customers a new, expanded lineup of residential energy conservation programs and business energy conservation programs. The initiatives are designed to make it easy for customers to save energy through responsible usage. Several programs offer new or increased incentives for customer participation, including a program that makes free energy-efficient light bulbs available to customers. The programs will are being made available on a phased roll-out through 2008. Read the news release announcing the new programs.

Proposed changes to your electric base rate

On August, 11, 2008, Tampa Electric formally filed its request for a base rate increase with the Florida Public Service Commission (FPSC), the first such request made by the company in 16 years. The proposed new rates will reflect the cost of investments the company has made to add environmentally responsible power generation and meet new reliability standards, as well as increased costs of commodities essential to the production and delivery of electricity. If approved by the FPSC, the bill for a Tampa Electric residential customer using 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month would increase by about 7.5 percent, starting in May 2009.

To learn more, visit our proposed changes to your electric base rate page, or read our news release.

Tampa Electric began its conservation program initiative in the late 1970s, prior to any federal or state energy conservation requirements. Almost 400,000 customers have participated in the company’s conservation programs to date.
