Pets are typically not allowed at Red Cross shelters. Many animal hospitals, clinics and shelters will board pets during a hurricane emergency, but such arrangements are on a first-come, first-serve basis. The time to check with them is before an evacuation is ordered. It’s best to heed early warnings because shelters will not come to homes to pick up pets.
