TAMPA, July 24, 1998

Tampa Electric Company, along with the City of Temple Terrace and the Temple Terrace Police Department, have teamed up as local co-sponsors of the 15th Annual National Night Out event, Tues., Aug. 4 at Ben Lomond Park in Temple Terrace.

From 7 p.m.-10 p.m., residents in Temple Terrace and throughout the Tampa Bay area, will observe America's night out against crime by locking their doors, turning on outside lights and spending the evening with neighbors.

National Night Out is designed to promote partnerships between police and the community, as well as collective efforts in working together to fight crime. More than 9,000 communities worldwide, including 30 million residents from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canada and U.S. military bases around the world, are expected to participate in this year's event.

"The National Night Out campaign is an extraordinary way to build neighborhood unity and strengthen police-community partnerships," said Matt Peskin, national project coordinator. "We invite neighbors across America to join forces with us to give crime and drugs a going-away party."

Locally, many communities, including Temple Terrace, will host a variety of special events. A poster contest for kids will run from July 28 through Aug. 1. Residents may contact the City of Temple Terrace Police Department at 989-7118 for more information on how to enter.
