Tampa Electric debuts new Environmental Web site
TAMPA, January 30, 2004
A tool for local environmental news and a reference source of how Tampa Electric Company is working to protect the ecology of the Tampa Bay area is now online. Users can access Tampa Electric’s new environmental Web site by going to tampaelectric.com and choosing Environmental.
See how Tampa Electric is balancing the need for a clean environment with the need for reliable energy. The environmental Web site includes sections on commitment, compliance, reporting and stewardship. Other sections discuss community involvement and organizations, power plant technologies and how the company strives to promote a legacy of environmental goodwill.
Information ranges from Tampa Electric’s new clean-burning Bayside Power Station to the company’s project to protect endangered ospreys. The stewardship section features a link to the Manatee Viewing Center in Apollo Beach, a protected habitat for the endangered Florida manatee and a showcase for rare and endangered plant and bird life.
"We feel the website is a great opportunity to educate people in this area -- and around the world -- about our environment and the measures Tampa Electric Company is taking to improve it," said Greg Nelson, director of Environmental, Health and Safety with Tampa Electric. "From our program to reduce environmental emissions while providing cleaner, reliable energy to our customers, to environmental education, preservation and conservation, we hope that the great achievements that are occurring in West Central Florida can benefit other communities.”
Tampa Electric Company is the principal subsidiary of TECO Energy, Inc. (NYSE:TE), a diversified holding company of energy-related businesses that include Peoples Gas System, TECO Power Services, TECO Transport, TECO Coal and TECO Solutions.
