Power outage information available on Tampa Electric Web site

Customers and the news media can access up-to-date outage information 24 hours a day.

TAMPA, September 11, 2009

Tampa Electric today announced that real-time information about power outages is available on the company’s Web site at

The outage map, which provides power outage information that is updated every 15 minutes, includes:

  • Color-coded icons based on the size of the outage.
  • Estimated restoration time.
  • Approximate number of customers affected.

Tampa Electric President Gordon Gillette said, “Our team members work hard every day to provide reliable electric service to all of our customers. Unfortunately, though outages do occur, we are committed to restoring service as quickly and safely as possible. This new tool will provide customers with additional information when an outage impacts their area.”

The outage maps do not include the causes of outages. There are many reasons why customers experience power outages, including interruptions due to animals making contact with equipment, tree limbs falling on power lines, severe weather, vandalism and vehicular accidents.

R esidential and commercial customers are encouraged to call Tampa Electric’s dedicated toll-free automated power outage phone number at (877) 588-1010 to report a power outage or electrical emergency.
