Tampa Electric workshop summary available online
TAMPA, October 30, 2003
Tampa Electric today announced that the summary materials from its October 4, 7 and 8 public workshops are now available through the company’s Web site: tampaelectric.com/juneau. The materials, which are also being mailed to all registered workshop participants and mail-in respondents, include the following:
- Workshop summary by the third party facilitation team
- Summary of feedback from respondents at each workshop
- Questions and answers from the workshops and mail-in packets
- Rankings of routing and design criteria, including criteria added by the public
The top issues presented at the workshops included communication, routing, health and safety concerns, economics and substation issues, from which the company has obtained valuable information.
“Almost immediately following the public workshops, we held a training session with nearly 150 engineers, planners and supervisors. They watched video highlights from the workshops and discussed the key concerns raised by the public. I am confident this input will help us make better judgments on the difficult decisions associated with infrastructure location, size and proximity to customers,” said Hernandez.
Hernandez said the company continues its study of possible alternative routes, evaluating based on the company’s siting criteria, with increased emphasis on community values. He reiterated that community values will be balanced alongside legal requirements, state and federal regulations and industry requirements.
“We’ve received input from residents in Egypt Lake and the surrounding areas. But we are also listening to residents from other parts of the study area, including along Waters. While there will never be a perfect route, our overriding goal is to identify routes that consider all our customers, while meeting our obligation to provide reliable and affordable power,” added Hernandez.
The company expects to provide the results of its analysis to the public during the month of November.
