Update on Tampa Power Outage
TAMPA, February 22, 2013
A “perfect storm” of events occurred today that caused a power outage at a city of Tampa water treatment plant. At 5:30 a.m., an outage occurred on an underground power line, likely caused by a squirrel or other animal. The line was one of two serving the plant. A problem with the city’s equipment exacerbated the issue by causing the second line to fail at about 1:30 p.m., leaving the plant without power. Tampa Electric restored service to both lines by 3:30 p.m. and worked with the city to resolve their equipment issues.
At 4 p.m., the water treatment plant was operating on full Tampa Electric power.
