Tampa Electric celebrates Earth Day at local events

The company makes it easy for customers to “go green” at any Earth Day event they attend

TAMPA, April 19, 2013

Tampa Electric celebrates Earth Day and Arbor Day 2013 at two Tampa-area events where customers can get free energy-saving kits and information about money-saving programs and services. The events are open to the public.

At each event, Tampa Electric energy analysts will inform visitors about the company’s many energy-saving programs and services. Tampa Electric will have one or more alternative fuel vehicles from its Green Fleet on display, such as the plug-in electric Chevy Volt.

  • Earth Day Tampa Bay 2013 at the University of South Florida’s Botanical Gardens – 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 20. This event is organized by the Tampa Bay Sierra Club and USF’s Office of Sustainability.
  • City of Tampa Arbor Day – 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 26. This tree-planting event along the eastern shore of the Hillsborough River, near Columbus Drive, is organized by the city of Tampa and the Ridgewood Park Civic Association.

Tampa Electric is encouraging its customers to “go green” on Earth Day by signing up to power their businesses and homes using renewable energy. The company’s Renewable Energy program allows customers to purchase renewable energy in 200 kilowatt-hour (kWh) blocks for $5 per block per month.

Customers also can power an event at their businesses and/or homes with Tampa Electric’s one-time renewable energy purchase option.

Tampa Electric’s Renewable Energy program uses energy from several resources, primarily solar and biomass, to support customer demand for its renewable program. Since 2000, Tampa Electric customers have voluntarily purchased nearly 56 million kilowatt-hours of renewable energy – enough to power more than 4,000 homes for a year. These customers have generated an environmental savings equal to removing nearly 6,000 cars from the road for an entire year or planting more than 11,000 acres of trees.

Tampa Electric customers can call 813-228-4848 for information about the company’s renewable energy programs. Additional information can be found at
