TECO Energy expands John Ramil's leadership role

TAMPA, December 16, 2002

TECO Energy Chairman and CEO Robert Fagan today announced the promotion of John B. Ramil to Executive Vice President for TECO Energy. Ramil, who was named president of Tampa Electric in 1998, will retain his current position, while taking on increased responsibility at the holding company. Reporting relationships will remain the same.

"The idea here is to bring John's leadership to more areas of the company. This is a solid step forward that we believe will enhance TECO Energy's overall performance, which benefits shareholders," said Fagan. "Particularly during these challenging market conditions, we want to ensure that we're capturing every opportunity for synergy we can."

Fagan added that, as executive vice president, Ramil will play a key role in executing the company's business strategy. "In his expanded role, John will be keeping a close eye on opportunities to maximize efficiencies among all our operations," Fagan said.

A Tampa native, Ramil joined Tampa Electric in March 1976 as a cooperative education student while attending the University of South Florida, where he received his bachelor's and master's degrees in Engineering. Since joining the company, he has held a variety of leadership positions, including in the company's Energy Services, Engineering, Operations, Marketing, Customer Service and Environmental Affairs areas.

In 2001, Florida Governor Jeb Bush appointed Ramil to the charter Board of Trustees of the University of South Florida. He is also on the Boards of the Florida Electric Power Coordinating Group, the Southeastern Electric Exchange, the Greater Tampa Chamber of Commerce and the Tampa Bay Partnership.

Tampa Electric is the principal subsidiary of TECO Energy, Inc. (NYSE:TE), an integrated utility company headquartered in Tampa, Florida. Other TECO Energy businesses include Peoples Gas System, TECO Power Services, TECO Transport, TECO Coal, and TECO Solutions.
