TAMPA, January 10, 2001
Radio Disney, the Walt Disney Company's youth-oriented radio network, will do a live remote broadcast Sat., Jan. 13 from Tampa Electric's Manatee Viewing Center.
The popular manatee attraction in southern Hillsborough County, which opened in mid-November for its 15th season, will host Radio Disney's Tampa Bay area affiliate, AM 1380, for a two-hour program this Saturday called "Morning with the Manatees."
Radio Disney currently airs a mix of popular music, games and entertainment geared to teenagers and pre-teens in 48 U.S. cities.
The live remote show at the Apollo Beach facility will air on Radio Disney's Tampa Bay affiliate and feature special appearances by Mollie the Manatee, Tampa Bay Buccaneers cheerleaders and the Radio Disney FUN Squad.
The Manatee Viewing Center also is receiving worldwide exposure this week as the newly launched National Geographic Channel cable network is airing a five-minute segment on the facility and recent manatee-tagging activities there by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
The segment is airing for several nights the week of Jan. 8-12 on the channel's weeknight prime time newsmagazine, "National Geographic Today," which focuses on nature, science and biotechnology.
