Aspen Substation

Tampa Electric is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective electricity to you and your neighbors in the Riverview community.

Tampa Electric plans to build a substation in your neighborhood. The company will install switching equipment at the new Aspen Substation at 14105 Balm Boyette Road in Riverview (see the area map under Project Downloads). The area will be securely fenced and buffered by trees. This equipment is needed to ensure the reliable delivery of electricity to homes and businesses in your area.

Three 230-kilovolt (kV) lines will serve the station - two from Tampa Electric's Big Bend Power Station and one from Tampa Electric's Polk Power station.

In addition, one line will connect to the company's existing Mines Substation, at 18483 County Road 39 S. in Fort Lonesome, and two will connect to the company's Fishhawk Substation, 19306 Boyette Road, in southeastern Hillsborough County.

Construction is scheduled to begin in January. The project will be complete by mid-2016. Residents may see increased truck traffic on Balm Boyette Road. Residents also may hear some construction-related noise during daylight hours.

We urge residents to drive safely during construction for the safety of residents, vehicles and Tampa Electric crews.

This new substation is part of Tampa Electric's plans to expand the Polk Power Station by 2017. The expansion will add about 460 megawatts, or enough electricity to power more than 100,000 homes. It will require about 30 miles of new transmission lines.
