Gray to Cypress Power Line Project
Tampa Electric is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective electricity to you and your neighbors in Tampa.
Tampa Electric plans to upgrade existing power lines and substations in your neighborhood. The company will upgrade about 1 mile of a 69-kilovolt (kV) power line between the Gray Substation, at 4402 W. Carmen St., and the Cypress Substation, 5142 Cypress St. These improvements are needed to ensure the homes and businesses in your area continue to receive reliable power. Equipment at both substations also will be upgraded. (Please see attached map.)
The new steel poles will be up to 74 feet tall and about 20 inches wide at ground level. Two poles will be about 30 inches wide at ground level. Traffic will be temporarily disrupted during the installation of the equipment, with intermittent lane closures and detours. Residents may hear some construction-related noise, mostly during daylight hours on weekdays. Tree trimming and clearing will begin in March. Construction is scheduled to begin later in March and be complete by the end of the year. We urge residents to drive cautiously during construction for the safety of other residents and our Tampa Electric crews.
If you would like to learn more about this project, please plan to attend our open house, when Tampa Electric representatives will be available to answer your questions from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 7 at the Tampa Marriott Westshore, 1001 N. Westshore Blvd., Tampa 33607.
