Tampa Electric is committed to providing reliable, cost-effective electricity to you and your neighbors in Polk and southeastern Hillsborough counties.
Tampa Electric is expanding the Polk Power Station. The project requires about 30 miles of new 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission lines. The Polk Power to Fishhawk Substation line will begin at the power plant, in southwestern Polk County, and end at the company's Fishhawk Substation, 19306 Boyette Road, in southeastern Hillsborough County. The company also is building a substation near Balm Boyette Road and Aspen Avenue. A 6-mile portion of an existing 230-kV transmission line in the Pierce and Bradley areas of Polk County also is being relocated to improve reliability. Please see the downloadable map.
- Tampa Electric had received final approval from the Public Service Commission, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and the governor and Cabinet, sitting as the State of Florida Siting Board.
- Construction on the plant expansion has begun.
- Design of the transmission line continues.
- Publicly visible construction on the transmission line will begin in 2015.
