Tampa General Hospital Reliability
To ensure that electric and natural gas service to Tampa General remains reliable after a significant storm, Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas are planning some changes.
Currently, electric and gas service is provided along the Plant Avenue bridge. Electric and gas utilities will be removed from the bridge and will be installed underneath the channel.
This project will ensure that Tampa General, the region's only Level 1 trauma center, will be able to provide the highest level of care without interruption, even after a hurricane or other natural disaster.
This is a large undertaking, and construction will take several months. The work will intermittently disrupt traffic, and we apologize for the inconvenience. TECO and Tampa General are working closely with the city of Tampa to minimize traffic disruption as much as possible.
- Construction remains on schedule.
- Crews have reduced the length of the construction work zone along Davis Boulevard.
- Traffic will remain restricted to one southbound lane (onto the island) and two northbound lanes (off the island) through mid-October.
Thank you for your patience during this important project, and we ask that you continue to use caution during construction for the safety of other drivers, vehicles and our crews.
