To ensure that electric and natural gas service to Tampa General Hospital remains reliable after a significant storm, Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas are moving utility services from the Plant Avenue bridge to beneath the channel.
Construction progressed through late fall, and it was paused for several months. The next phase of the project has begun. It is scheduled to be complete by the end of summer.
On Davis Island, most of the work will be within the park at the base of the bridge, and work will occur at night, up to six nights a week. Other work will occur during daylight hours.
For drivers on Davis Island, we expect the work to occasionally disrupt traffic during evening hours:
TECO is working closely with the city of Tampa to minimize traffic disruption as much as possible. We urge everyone to drive with caution during construction for the safety of other drivers, vehicles and our crews.
On the land-side of the project, only pedestrian traffic will be affected. Please use extra caution when walking near the Holy Trinity Presbyterian Church work zone. Work will take place mostly during daytime hours and is expected to be completed by the end of the summer.
Thank you for your patience during this important project.
