Tampa Electric sending crews to New England to help restore power

National Grid, Eversource restoring damage from severe storm that hit Sunday night

Tampa Electric is sending nearly 200 people to New England today to help several utilities restore power after severe weather affected over a million customers in the area Sunday night.

About 40 linemen and 15 support personnel left the Tampa Bay area this morning at dawn for Marlboro, Mass., a drive that is expected to take more than two days They are prepared to stay for two weeks. About 130 line contractors are traveling to Connecticut to assist Eversource.

An unnamed “nor’easter” storm swept through New England overnight Sunday, and its severe winds caused significant power outages in Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut and Maine

Tampa Electric is a member of the Southeastern Electric Exchange, or SEE, which is a network of utilities who pledge mutual assistance in case of storm or other emergency. Crews supporting the restoration efforts of other utilities are paid by the host utility.
