We’re strengthening our grid to be more resilient during severe weather.

Tampa Electric's Storm Protection Plan (SPP) is a multi-year resiliency initiative that combines strategic investments with advanced technology to strengthen the electric system and improve performance during storms.

As our region continues to grow, we're reinforcing power poles and substations, converting select overhead power lines to underground and trimming trees and plants that can cause outages. These ongoing improvements help reduce power outages, shorten restoration times when outages do occur, and lower storm recovery costs for customers.

Since we began implementing SPP in 2020, we've:

• Cut momentary outages by 48%.
• Reduced tree-related outages by 33%.
• Placed more than 270 miles of overhead power lines underground.
• Converted nearly 2,700 power poles from wood to steel or concrete.
• Installed more than 1,100 automation and efficiency devices.
• Removed more than 4,500 trees that could cause power outages.
