Tampa Electric Seeking Businesses to Apply for Drive Smart Program

Tampa Electric is seeking applications from local businesses interested in installing public charging stations for electric vehicles (EVs).

Tampa Electric’s Drive SmartSM pilot program will install EV chargers across West Central Florida. The program will evaluate how EV drivers charge their vehicles, and the additional chargers will help to increase customer confidence in the availability of public charging locations.

“As the adoption of EVs continues to grow, it will be vitally important that charging infrastructure is available to meet the demand,” said Kenneth Hernandez, business development manager for Tampa Electric. “EV chargers are a great way to keep and attract customers and employees, and to show a commitment to the environment.”

The pilot program relies on the participation of local organizations. It is a great opportunity to enter the EV charger market: Tampa Electric will contribute up to $5,000 towards equipment and installation costs for each charging port.

Tampa Electric business customers interested in participating in the Drive Smart program are encouraged to complete an application at tampaelectric.com/EV.

Tampa Electric, one of Florida’s largest investor-owned electric utilities, serves about 800,000 customers in West Central Florida. Tampa Electric is a subsidiary of Emera Inc., a geographically diverse energy and services company headquartered in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada.
