Tampa Electric supports workforce development in our community
We understand quality jobs and a skilled workforce are key to the economic growth of the communities we serve. That’s why we’re committed to supporting innovative workforce development initiatives that help our region and our local business community thrive. Our workforce development partners include Hillsborough Community College, University of South Florida, MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa Bay Economic Prosperity Foundation, the Tampa Bay Chamber of Commerce and many more. College Internships and
Career Exploration Programs
Tampa Electric actively recruits college students for paid internships and reaches out to high school students who may or may not go to college to teach them about Tampa Electric and employment opportunities in the electrical industry. We’re passionate about giving the next generation of leaders a solid career foundation. Whether they become our employees or choose another company, it’s our communities that ultimately benefit.
Tampa Electric also works with high schools in Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, and Polk Counties through the following career exploration programs:
Future Careers Academy, in partnership with Hillsborough County Schools, prepares and connects students to great jobs and training opportunities in their community. Tampa Electric regularly participates in Future Career Academy Business Panels to spotlight career opportunities at Tampa Electric.
Think Big High School Career Exploration Program affords Tampa Electric the opportunity to participate in Hillsborough County Schools’ annual Career Showcase.
PowerJAM Career Showcase empowers Tampa Electric to teach students in underserved areas of Tampa Bay about careers at Tampa Electric. We offer tours of our mobile command center and bucket trucks, and our lineworkers demonstrate pole-climbing and much more.
STEAM Youth Programs allow Tampa Electric’s engineers to regularly volunteer at local middle schools to highlight STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) careers and explain their experiences working as engineers in the electrical industry.
The Great American Teach-In gives Tampa Electric the chance to challenge students to begin thinking about their future career paths. Each year, we speak with students about their hobbies and areas of interest and educate them about careers in the electrical industry.
