At Tampa Electric, we're committed to providing you with safe, affordable and reliable electric service. Our Storm Protection Plan (SPP) is a $100 million a year investment toward increasing that reliability. The plan also provides for faster restoration after a storm. Work is beginning so you might see crews working to strengthen power lines, underground lines and trim trees.

  • We strengthen power lines by installing stronger, more storm-resistant poles and improved technology.
  • Once we identify overhead power lines that have the biggest opportunity for improvement after extreme weather, we will convert them to underground lines.
  • A leading cause of power outages are falling limbs or downed trees. We trim trees frequently to help maximize power reliability.
  • We are making our substations more resilient by raising some equipment and/or building floodwalls.
