"Our goal is to help businesses better understand where they're using energy and to identify practical opportunities to reduce costs," said Karen Sparkman, vice president of Customer Experience for Tampa Electric. "Many businesses discover that small operational changes, combined with rebates and efficiency upgrades, can deliver meaningful savings over time."

What Happens During a Business Energy Audit?

A free Business Energy Audit typically takes about two hours and is customized to each facility. During the visit, Tampa Electric's certified energy analysts evaluate the building's energy use, equipment and operating practices while identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.

Businesses receive recommendations that may include:

  • Low-cost operational improvements that can be implemented immediately
  • Equipment upgrades that reduce energy use and operating costs
  • Available rebates and incentive programs that can help lower project costs
  • Long-term energy-saving strategies tailored to the business

For businesses seeking a more detailed evaluation, Tampa Electric also offers a paid Business Energy Audit that includes equipment monitoring, sub-metering and a comprehensive strategic plan with prioritized recommendations to maximize efficiency, reduce waste and improve system performance.

Why Does Energy Efficiency Matter for Businesses?

Improving energy efficiency can help businesses lower operating expenses while maintaining a comfortable and productive environment for employees and customers. Many energy-saving opportunities require little or no upfront investment, such as adjusting equipment schedules, improving lighting controls or optimizing heating and cooling systems. Other upgrades may qualify for Tampa Electric rebates that improve return on investment.

Tampa Electric's certified energy analysts help businesses prioritize improvements based on potential savings, operational needs and available incentives, making it easier to develop an energy management strategy that fits their budget and business goals.
