Residential rates will decline up to 12% for most customers on September 1
Dear Valued Customer,

Archie CollinsPresident and Chief |
We know many families and businesses are feeling the pressure of higher prices — at the grocery store, at the gas pump, and in monthly bills. If your electric bill has been higher over the past year, we recognize the strain that can add, and we’re committed to helping. We also want you to know lower bills are ahead, and we’re focused on giving you solutions to help manage energy costs now and over time.
The good news: beginning September 1, most customers will see their electric bill go down when the temporary storm restoration charge expires.
Bills Go Down in September
The temporary storm restoration charge, which began in March 2025, helped cover about $464 million in power restoration costs following the historic 2024 hurricane season. Large-scale restoration of an electric system after major hurricanes is not covered by insurance, so these costs are recovered over time through a temporary, regulator‑approved charge. When this charge comes off bills, the difference will be significant.
- Residential and small business customers will see a reduction of $19.95 per 1,000 kilowatt-hours each month, translating to approximately 11–12% lower bills for most.
- If you’re enrolled in Budget Billing, savings are reflected more gradually because monthly payments are based on a prior 12‑month average designed to keep bills predictable and stable. As a result, Budget Billing amounts will not drop immediately on September 1; they will adjust over time as lower costs are factored into your next review.
- The rate reduction for commercial and industrial customers varies by usage. Please call us at (866) 832-6249 or speak to your account representative if you want to know the specifics for your business.
Higher Summer Bills Are Coming — and We Can Help
Before bills decrease in September, customers may see higher electric bills due to seasonal energy use. From April through September, Florida households use nearly 30% more electricity than the rest of the U.S., largely because air conditioning systems run longer in hot, humid weather.
To help you get ahead of hot weather impacts, Tampa Electric offers tools and programs through our Spring Energy Tune Up, including:
- Budget Billing to help keep monthly payments more predictable
- Prime Time Plus to earn monthly bill credits and receive a free smart thermostat
- Energy Planner to get lower rates by shifting usage away from peak hours and receive a free programmable thermostat
- Energy audits to identify practical ways to save and to see if you qualify for incentives and rebates
- Rebates for energy‑efficient upgrades that can lower long-term costs
- Practical energy‑saving tips you can use right away
