When called upon to donate items or service hours to our community, Tampa Electric and Peoples Gas team members always step up. When that task becomes a competition, it’s game on.

That’s exactly what happened with the Thanksgiving food drive hosted by Central Service Area’s Distribution Design and Engineering team members. With a goal of donating canned and non-perishable food items to Metropolitan Ministries, the teams spiced things up by adding a design competition to the mix.

“We mixed up the groups and allowed team members to connect with peers they normally wouldn’t work with,” said Tiffany Bornfleth, Tampa Electric’s Project Communications Coordinator. “Next thing you know, we had 850 pounds of canned food and other non-perishable food items to donate.”

Like any good reality show, team members understood the assignment and took the competition seriously. Team members even met in advance to determine what color labels, sizes and quantity of each can was needed to create their structures.

While the winner of the contest was the Minion lineworker, the real victory came in knowing the food drive helped families in need throughout our community.
Thank you to the Tampa Electric team members who participated in this fun and impactful food drive and to all of you who are donating your time, talents and/or treasures this holiday season.
