How Tampa Electric transformed ZooTampa’s outdoor lighting
Project Spotlight: ZooTampa, Tampa, FL
ZooTampa has been part of the Tampa Bay community for over 100 years and Tampa Electric was proud to help enhance its outdoor lighting (view video). This project is a great example of how Tampa Electric can take on an existing lighting system and improve it, combining energy savings, sustainability and improved safety for guests and staff.
At ZooTampa, Tampa Electric upgraded over 100 existing fixtures to energy-efficient LED lighting. These new LEDs use up to 60% less energy, require less maintenance and last up to five times longer than conventional fixtures. Because ZooTampa wanted to keep its lighting dark-sky friendly, we carefully selected fixtures that provide the needed illumination while minimizing light spill, preserving the natural environment the zoo’s animals call home.
In addition to retrofitting existing lights, Tampa Electric installed new lighting in other areas of the zoo, helping to improve visibility and safety across the property. We chose the Bright Choices Archeion fixture for its efficiency and performance and, since the existing poles were still in good shape, we restored them with a fresh coat of paint to bring back their original shine. A recent parking lot expansion features the Bright Choices Verdeon fixture paired with the Matava pole, blending function and style to complement the original installation.
