Since the late 1800s, when downtown Tampa’s first electric streetlight marked the beginning of a new era, the company that would become Tampa Electric has played a vital role in powering the growth and prosperity of West Central Florida. Today, we deliver 99.98% service reliability to approximately 860,000 customers, including more than 90,000 businesses, across 2,000 square miles of Hillsborough County and parts of Pasco, Pinellas and Polk counties.

Our taxes support schools, hospitals, emergency services and critical industries through local and state taxes, contributing to long-term resilience. Investments in infrastructure, workforce development, environmental stewardship and community programs help build a stable, future-ready economy. Our operations strengthen supply chains, attract businesses and talent and boost consumer spending across the state.

Statewide, Tampa Electric supports more than 8,000 jobs directly and indirectly, generates $911 million in labor income, contributes more than $3 billion to the gross domestic product (GDP) and adds $5.6 billion in annual goods and services output.

To consider the significance of Tampa Electric’s 2024 operations across the region and the state, the Tampa Bay Partnership produced an Industry Contribution Analysis conducted by Aaron D. Wood, Associate Professor of Economics at the University of Tampa.

The report highlights our economic impact, including spending, employment and salary contributions, as well as taxes and community investments, showcasing both the company’s direct operations and broader contributions.

Tampa Electric is the primary power provider in Hillsborough County. The company's operations in Hillsborough County generate about 73% of its jobs and 76% of its total economic output.
