Our free Energy Planner program is a powerful tool to save money. It allows you to plan your highest energy use during the time of day when demand for electricity is lowest. By doing so, we’re able to “reward” you with lower rates. Think of it as shopping every day during a limited-time sale!
Here’s an example: Instead of paying the current standard residential rate of 12.218 cents per kilowatt-hour without Energy Planner, you can run your water heater or do your laundry during a low-rate time period and spend just 8.600 cents per kilowatt hour with Energy Planner. Those pennies add up!

How it worksEnergy Planner offers lower electricity rates based on the time of day and the day of the week (Low, Medium and High). The key to saving is to make simple adjustments to when you use energy most. We install programmable devices that communicate with an online portal you’ll access to program your heating & cooling system, water heater and pool pump (if applicable). You’ll be “rewarded” with lower rates when running those appliances and being aware of other energy use during the Low and Medium price levels. The MEDIUM RATE is available for the greatest amount of time at 58.9% and is still lower than the standard rate. The HIGH RATE makes up the least amount of time at 13.4%. This rate is NEVER present on weekends or holidays. |

*Don’t be alarmed by the Critical price level. Although this level can become active at any time and reflects the increased cost of providing electricity during times of extremely high demand, it's used infrequently. Should the Critical rate go into effect it cannot exceed 1.5 percent of the total hours in a year. If the Critical rate was in effect for the maximum 1.5 percent of total hours in the year, an average customer with 1000 kWh usage/month would see an additional $41.52/year added to their bill. As an added sense of security, Energy Planner lets you program your heating and cooling system, water heater and pool pump (if applicable) to automatically shut off if a Critical level becomes active. The price of 12.218 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh) is based on an average residential customer using 1,200 kWh per month on Tampa Electric's Residential Service (RS) two-tiered fuel and energy rate effective, January 1, 2024. Energy Planner Portal
Accessing your secure Energy Planner portal is easy. Create an account or login using your existing credentials. Once you’re logged in, click on Energy Planner to launch the Energy Planner portal. From the portal you can adjust temperature settings and program your, heating and cooling system, water heater and pool pump (if applicable). Whether you're at home, work or even away on vacation. Are you arriving home earlier than expected? No problem! Simply login to the portal and adjust your heating or cooling to get your home to the comfort level you want. A. Yes, we’ll install a programmable thermostat. In addition, you’ll receive access to a secure online portal that lets you manage temperature settings and program select appliances while at home or away.
A. To achieve maximum savings, use the online portal to program your heating & cooling system, water heater and pool pump to operate during the Low and Medium pricing levels. You’ll maximize your savings by avoiding the short period of time when the High level is active.
A. Review when the Low and Medium price levels are active and adjust the time of day that you use your dishwasher, washer, clothes dryer and other large appliances to avoid the high level time period. Remember - small things add up -turn off lights, ceiling fans, TV and computer equipment in unoccupied rooms.
A. A Critical price level can become active at any time, but it’s extremely rare. It is activated at times of extremely high demand, such as an unseasonably cold winter day or extremely hot summer day. You can maximize your savings by programming your heating & cooling system, water heater and pool pump (if applicable) to automatically turn off when a critical pricing level is active.
A. Yes, an adult must be present, preferably the person who will most likely use the programmable thermostat and online portal. As part of the installation, we will show you how to make the most of Energy Planner by using these devices.
A. Yes, you can cancel after 12 months. We will remove all equipment and reinstall the thermostat you had prior to Energy Planner.
